Born Orenthial James Brigance in Houston, he played college football at Rice University, where he was a three-year starter and earned a degree in managerial studies in 1992. He began his professional career with the BC Lions in 1991 and later played for the Baltimore Stallions, helping them win the Grey Cup in 1995. Brigance also played in the NFL for the Baltimore Ravens, Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams, and was the recipient of the NCAA Inspiration Award.
