Edith Eger Hungarian-American psychologist and author dead at age 98

Edith Eger

Edith Eger, a HungarianAmerican psychologist and author, died on April 27, 2026, at age 98.

Born Edith Eva Elefánt on September 29, 1927, in Budapest, Hungary, she was a clinical psychologist and a specialist in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder. Eger was also a Holocaust survivor.

Her memoir, The Choice: Embrace the Possible, was published in 2017 and became an international bestseller. Her second book, The Gift: 12 Lessons to Save Your Life, was published in September 2020.
