Mimi Coertse, the South African soprano, died on April 27, 2026, aged 93.
Born Maria Sophia Coertse in Durban on June 12, 1932, she matriculated at Helpmekaar Girls High School in Johannesburg and began vocal studies in South Africa in 1949. Her first vocal coach in Johannesburg was Aimee Parkerson.
On January 26, 2020, she was inaugurated as a living legend in the South African Legends Museum, where she was among 20 South African legends commemorated with a bust.
