Hyron Diego Andrews, a South African rugby union player for the Lions, died in a fall on October 16, 2026, aged 31.
Born in Paarl on July 6, 1995, he played as a lock and represented the Lions in the United Rugby Championship. His rugby development included appearances for the Blue Bulls at two prominent school competitions: the Under-16 Grant Khomo Week in 2011 and the Under-18 Craven Week in 2012 and 2013.
Andrews made three appearances in each Craven Week campaign, scoring two tries in 2013. He was also selected for the South Africa Schools side in 2012, though he did not make an appearance for the team. After finishing high school, Andrews joined the Sharks Academy and moved into the Sharks’ under-19 side. In the 2014 Under-19 Provincial Championship, he started all 13 of the team’s matches as the Sharks reached the semifinals. Their campaign ended with a 43–20 defeat to the Blue Bulls under-19 team. These school and academy records charted his progress from representative rugby in South Africa’s age-group competitions to senior provincial rugby with the Lions.
