Maya Belenkaya Russian figure skater dead at age 94

Maya Belenkaya

Maya Belenkaya, a Russian figure skater, died on April 27, 2026, at the age of 94.

Born in Leningrad on May 1, 1931, she was a Soviet figure skater who competed in singles and pairs. With her partner Igor Moskvin, she won the Soviet national championship three times, from 1952 to 1954.

Belenkaya began skating at age 12 at the Pioneers Palace under her first coach, A. Zhdanov. She lived in Leningrad, later Saint Petersburg, throughout her life, survived the Siege of Leningrad, and was awarded the Medal “For the Defence of Leningrad.”
