Colin McDonald (footballer, born 1930) English footballer dead at age 95

Colin McDonald, the English footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Burnley and the national team, died on January 1, 2026.

Born Colin Agnew McDonald on 15 October 1930, he made 201 appearances for Burnley across two spells from 1948 to 1950 and from 1951 to 1961. A leg injury in 1959 ended his professional career.

He won eight caps for England, including four appearances at the 1958 FIFA World Cup, and was part of the team that won the 1958–59 British Home Championship. He was also named 11th in the 1958 Ballon d’Or rankings.

Colin Agnew McDonald (15 October 1930 – 1 January 2026) was an English footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Burnley from 1948 to 1950 and from 1951 to 1961. He made 201 appearances in total with the club, until a leg injury in 1959 forced his retirement as a professional player. He is regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers in Burnley’s history, and finished in 11th place in the 1958 Ballon d’Or rankings.
