Miloslav Gajdoš, the Czech double bass player and composer, died on August 25, 2026, aged 78.
Born in Město Albrechtice on April 13, 1948, he was also a music teacher and studied composition with Zdeněk Zouhar between 1968 and 1972. Gajdoš began on the violin before taking up the double bass, receiving lessons in Kroměříž, Brno and from Ludwig Streicher.
He won a prize at the International Double Bass Competition in Markneukirchen, played bass in the Brno theater orchestra while studying, later appeared as a soloist with the Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc, and helped introduce Giovanni Bottesini’s First Double Bass Concerto in the Czech premiere.
