Zheng Fengrong, a Chinese athlete and high jumper, died on August 25, 2026, aged 89.

Born in Jinan in 1937, she became one of China’s earliest international track and field stars and competed in the high jump. Joining the national team in 1953, she set a world record in 1957 with a jump of 1.77 metres, becoming the first Chinese woman to hold a sports world record.

Later in her career, she was recognized in China for her achievements and was awarded the Silver Olympic Order.
