Brian Doyle, a Canadian writer of novels and short stories, died on January 1, 2026.
Born in Ottawa in 1935, he drew many of his stories from his experiences growing up in the Ottawa area. His children’s books were adapted into movies and plays.
Doyle received the NSK Neustadt Prize for Children’s Literature in 2005 and was twice a finalist for the Hans Christian Andersen Award. He died in Wakefield, Quebec, at age 90.
