Alan Haselhurst, the British Conservative politician who served as an MP and later sat in the House of Lords, died on June 2, 2026, aged 88.

Born at South Elmsall in Yorkshire on June 23, 1937, he was educated at King Edward’s School, Cheltenham College and Oriel College, Oxford. He represented Middleton and Prestwich from 1970 to February 1974, then Saffron Walden from 1977 to 2017, and served as Chairman of Ways and Means from 1997 to 2010.

Created a life peer in 2018 as Baron Haselhurst, he took his seat in the Lords the following year and remained a member until 2024.
