Enamul Huq, the Bangladeshi police officer who served as inspector general of police, died on August 30, 2026, aged 88.

Huq held the top post in the Bangladesh Police from 1991 to 1992 and later served as a member of the Law Commission from 2004 to 2007. Born on January 2, 1938, he studied history at the University of Rajshahi, earned an LLB from the University of Dhaka and later completed a Ph.D.

in public administration at the University of New Orleans. He joined the police cadre in 1964, trained at Police Academy Sardah and the International Police Academy in Washington, D.C., and went on to lead the Bangladesh Police Academy and serve as commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
