Sonny Gibbs, an American football player who was a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions, died on February 27, 2026, at age 86.
Born Guy Gilbert Gibbs Jr. on October 25, 1939, in Graham, Texas, he played college football for the TCU Horned Frogs at Texas Christian University.
A highly recruited athlete out of Graham High School, Gibbs was frequently mentioned in preseason All-American teams during his college career. As a sophomore, he shared the quarterback position with Donald George and recorded 47 completions for 473 yards, three touchdowns and nine interceptions.
