Bob “Hoolihan” Wells, an American weatherman, television personality and actor, died of liver cancer on October 21, 2026, aged 93.

Born Robert D. Wells in West Point, Nebraska, he began his broadcasting career at KWBE radio in Beatrice in 1951, after graduating from high school in Lincoln.

He later studied radio and television at the University of Nebraska. Wells became a familiar presence to Cleveland viewers on WJW-TV in the 1960s and 1970s as “Hoolihan the Weatherman.” In 1966, he and Charles “Big Chuck” Schodowski took over the station’s late-night movie-hosting show after Ernie Anderson left for Los Angeles. The Hoolihan and Big Chuck Show ran on Friday nights for 13 years, until Wells departed in 1979. He then moved to Florida, where he and his wife, Barbara, co-hosted “Horizons 22,” a daily interview, news and music program on WCLF-TV. Wells also acted in films, including Summer Rental, Ghetto Freaks and OHMS. His broadcasting work spanned radio and television, and his Cleveland television roles joined local weather reports with the late-night movie-hosting format that became closely associated with his on-air name.
