Ron Duguay, the Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played for the New York Rangers, died of colon cancer on October 22, 2026, aged 69.
Born Ronald Duguay on July 6, 1957, in Sudbury, Ontario, he spent part of his childhood in nearby Val Caron and played junior hockey for his hometown Sudbury Wolves from 1973 to 1977. Competing in the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League, Duguay became one of the Wolves’ leading scorers.
His 134-point 1975–76 season helped the club win the Hamilton Spectator Trophy as the league’s best regular-season team and reach the league finals. He went on to play 12 seasons in the NHL, from 1977 through 1989, and appeared with the Rangers in the 1979 Stanley Cup Final. After his playing career, Duguay served four seasons as a minor-league coach. He later returned to Rangers coverage in a different role, appearing as an in-studio analyst during MSG Network’s broadcasts from 2007 to 2018. His career in hockey thus spanned junior competition with his hometown team, NHL play, coaching and television analysis, with the Rangers featuring in both his playing years and his later broadcasting work.
