Audrey Emerton, Baroness Emerton British nursing administrator and life peer dead at age 90

Audrey Emerton, Baroness Emerton, the British nursing administrator and life peer, died on February 27, 2026, aged 90.

Born on 10 September 1935, she was a member of the House of Lords from 1997 to 2019, sitting as a crossbencher. In the National Health Service, she served as Chief Nursing Officer of South East Thames Regional Health Authority throughout the 1980s.

She was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 1989 New Year Honours and was created a life peer as Baroness Emerton, of Tunbridge Wells in the County of Kent and of Clerkenwell in the London Borough of Islington, in 1997. She was President of the Association of Nurse Administrators from 1979 to 1983.
