John Vaughan, an English professional footballer and coach who served as Bradford City’s goalkeeping coach, died October 22, 2026, aged 62.
Born in Isleworth on June 26, 1964, he was a goalkeeper who made nearly 400 league appearances during a career that included lengthy spells at Fulham, Cambridge United, Preston North End and Lincoln City. Vaughan came through West Ham United’s youth ranks but did not make a first-team appearance for the club.
While there, he went on loan to Charlton Athletic, Bristol Rovers, Wrexham and Bristol City to gain experience before Fulham signed him permanently in the summer of 1986 for £12,500. He spent two seasons at Craven Cottage, making 44 league appearances. His playing career also included brief appearances for Charlton Athletic, Bristol Rovers, Wrexham, Bristol City, Colchester United and Chesterfield, alongside his longer periods with Fulham, Cambridge, Preston and Lincoln. Those shorter spells and loan moves took him to clubs across the English game as he built a career as a professional goalkeeper. After his playing career, Vaughan worked at Bradford City as a goalkeeping coach, continuing in football in a specialist role focused on the position he had played throughout his career.
