Robert White, an American tenor and voice teacher, died on March 17, 2026.
Born on October 27, 1936, he had an active performance career for eight decades. He began performing Irish songs on the radio in 1942 at age six on programs including Coast to Coast on a Bus and The Fred Allen Show, earning the nickname “the little John McCormack.” In the late 1950s, he began a career as a concert tenor and later became known for performances of early music by Handel, Bach and Monteverdi, as well as for returning in the mid-1970s to Irish songs and performing a wide repertory in concert.
