Matti Caspi, an Israeli singer-songwriter, composer, musician, arranger and lyricist, died on February 7, 2026, at age 76.

Born in Kibbutz Hanita on November 30, 1949, he began developing an interest in music as a child after hearing Shmuel Gogol play the harmonica and later persuaded his parents to arrange piano lessons through the kibbutz. Caspi made his first public appearance at 16 on Kol Yisrael’s Teshu’ot Rishonot, a teenage talent show, and recorded “Leiẓan Kippurim” the following year.

Active from 1967 to 2025, he worked in genres including progressive pop, art rock, Brazilian music and jazz.

Matti Caspi (Hebrew: מתי כספי; 30 November 1949 – 7 February 2026) was an Israeli composer, musician, singer, arranger and lyricist. He has been hailed as one of Israel’s most beloved and prolific musicians.
