Glen Hansard, the Irish musician and frontman of The Frames, died on July 29, 2026, aged 56, after a traffic collision.
Born Glen James Hansard in Dublin, he had led the Irish rock band since 1990, recording six studio albums with the group, four of them top-ten entries on the Irish Album Charts. He also performed as one half of the folk-rock duo the Swell Season before releasing his solo debut, Rhythm and Repose, in 2012.
His 2015 album Didn’t He Ramble was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Folk Album. Beyond his recording career, Hansard acted in film and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Falling Slowly” from Once, which he co-wrote and performed with Markéta Irglová.
