Israel Pincas, the Israeli poet whose work appeared over decades in newspapers, magazines and literary supplements, died on July 19, 2026.
Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, on January 28, 1935, he moved with his mother to Mandate Palestine in 1944 after losing his father at age 6. He later served in the IDF and worked as a military correspondent.
Pincas began publishing poetry in Israeli periodicals in 1951 and brought out his first book, 14 Poems, in 1961. His poems reached readers through a range of publications, including the magazine Exclamation Point, and he went on to publish eight books of poetry. He was also known as Israel (Anton) Pincas and received the Israel Prize.
