John Droney, an American politician and lawyer, died on July 19, 2026.
A Connecticut Democrat, he chaired the state party from 1986 to 1992, helping guide Joe Lieberman’s upset Senate victory over Lowell Weicker in 1988 and later backing Lieberman’s independent campaign in 2006. Droney, who was born in West Hartford, Connecticut, graduated from the College of the Holy Cross before serving in Vietnam as an Army medic in Pleiku and earning his law degree at the University of Connecticut School of Law.
He later served as senior partner of Levy & Droney, the Farmington law firm that dissolved in 2012.
