John Robert Wright Jr., known as Bobby Wright, an American country singer and songwriter, died October 27, 2026, aged 84.

Born March 30, 1942, in Charleston, West Virginia, he was the middle child and only son of country singers Johnnie Wright and Kitty Wells. Much of his boyhood was spent in Louisiana, where his parents regularly performed on the country music television program Louisiana Hayride.

At age eight, Wright appeared on the program with them, and three years later he became part of their recordings. The family returned to Nashville in 1958. Although Wright was an able guitarist and vocalist, he had little interest in pursuing music as a career. His professional singing career ran from 1967 to 1979. His interest shifted to acting after he learned that Peter Tewksbury, a television and film director, had a role for a young Southern boy who could play guitar. Wright traveled to Hollywood to audition, but did not get the part. His screen test was seen by a producer.
