Also known as: Glynn Ray Simmons.

Glynn Simmons, an American wrongfully convicted prisoner who died of cancer, was 72 when he died October 28, 2026.

Also known as Glynn Ray Simmons, he was convicted in Oklahoma in 1975 of the 1974 murder of Carolyn Sue Rogers, a 30-year-old clerk at a liquor store in Edmond. On December 30, two armed men robbed the store.

Rogers was picking up the telephone when one of the robbers shot her in the head and killed her. Belinda Brown, an 18-year-old customer, was also shot in the head but survived. Simmons was later exonerated and released from prison in 2023, at age 72, after 48 years of imprisonment. His incarceration following the wrongful conviction is believed to have been the longest in American history. The case spanned nearly five decades, from the killing and conviction to Simmons’s eventual exoneration and release. He had been convicted the year after Rogers was killed and remained imprisoned until his exoneration led to his release. The account of his case is defined by that extended imprisonment and by the eventual recognition that he had been wrongfully convicted.
