Peter Dobing, an English footballer who played as an inside forward, died on October 27, 2026, aged 87.

Born in Manchester on December 1, 1938, he played in the Football League for Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City and Stoke City. He initially chose amateur football, which allowed him to play for more than one club.

That choice led to an awkward overlap when he signed for both Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers; each club selected him for an upcoming A-team game. Dobing came from a sporting family: his father played rugby league for Salford. At Blackburn, he produced his strongest league scoring returns. In 1957–58, he scored 20 league goals as Rovers gained promotion to the First Division. Four came in a single match against Bristol City. The following season, his 24 league goals were the highest figure of his career. In 1959–60, he scored five goals during Blackburn’s FA Cup run to the final, where Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Rovers 3–0. His Blackburn seasons included both a promotion campaign and a cup run that reached the final, alongside his notable personal goal returns. Manchester City and Stoke City were also among the clubs for which he played in the Football League.
