Sir Philip Otton, the British judge who served as a Lord Justice of Appeal from 1995 to 2001, died October 20, 2026, aged 93.
Born on 28 May 1933, he studied law at the University of Birmingham and earned an LLB. In 1983, he was approved for appointment as a High Court judge and assigned to the Queen’s Bench Division.
He joined the Court of Appeal as a Lord Justice in 1995 and held that office until 2001. His later judicial appointments included the Court of Appeal in Gibraltar in 2004 and the Qatar Civil and Commercial Court, where he served as a judge from 2007 to 2011. The move to judicial work in Gibraltar and Qatar followed his years on the English appellate bench and extended his service across several jurisdictions.
