Andy King, the British Labour politician who represented Rugby and Kenilworth in Parliament from 1997 to 2005, died on October 19, 2026, aged 78.

Born on September 14, 1948, he was educated at Coatbridge Technical College and Hatfield Polytechnic. Before entering Parliament, King worked as a postman and mechanic, then became a social services manager.

His professional life before elected office therefore included postal work, a mechanical trade and management in social services. He first won the Rugby and Kenilworth seat at the 1997 general election, entering the House of Commons as a Labour MP. He continued to represent the constituency through the 2001 election and stood again in 2005. At that year’s general election, he lost the seat to Conservative candidate Jeremy Wright, bringing his parliamentary service to an end. The result ended eight years of Labour representation by King in the constituency. An English Labour politician, he was also known by his full name, Andrew King. His parliamentary career was centered on the seat he had first won in 1997, while his earlier working life had taken him from postal and mechanical work into social services management.
