What was Kamaruddin Simanjuntak known for?
Kamaruddin Simanjuntak was an Indonesian lawyer.
Indonesian lawyer Kamaruddin Simanjuntak, whose full name was Kamaruddin Hendra Simanjuntak, died on October 19, 2026, aged 52.
Born on May 21, 1974, he completed secondary school at SMA Negeri 1 Siborongborong in 1992 and then moved to Jakarta. Without money to rent a room, he lived beneath a bridge in Klender, East Jakarta, spending three months doing casual work to support himself.
In 1993, he found work as a customer-service employee at a restaurant. He later tried to establish a small business, which failed, and then worked in sales. Those experiences preceded his interest in becoming a lawyer and marked a route into the profession that began outside legal work. Simanjuntak handled cases connected with the Hambalang Athletes’ Village and the e-KTP corruption scandal. His legal work also included representing Muhammad Kece in a religious-blasphemy case. In the murder case of Brigadier Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat, he represented Hutabarat’s family. Together, these cases placed his work across corruption matters, a blasphemy case and a murder case, with roles representing both an individual and a victim’s family.
