Kåre Grøttum Norwegian jazz pianist and composer dead at age 92

Kåre Grøttum, the Norwegian jazz pianist and composer, died on February 7, 2026, aged 92.

Born Kåre Idar Grøttum in Trondheim on January 24, 1934, he was also a music arranger and a presenter in NRK. He was active as a jazz musician in Oslo from the mid-1950s and led the orchestra of Oslo handelsgymnasiums russerevy in 1959.

Grøttum later earned a master’s degree in music at the University of Oslo in 1968, worked there as a fellow from 1965 to 1967, and served as a music teacher from 1985 to 1987. His composition “Småting,” written with Ivar Børsum, won Melodi Grand Prix 1972.

Kåre Idar Grøttum (24 January 1934 – 7 February 2026) was a Norwegian jazz pianist, composer and music arranger, as well a known presenter in NRK.
