Weisberg, an American art historian and educator, died on February 7, 2026. He was 83.
A native of New York City, he earned a bachelor’s degree from New York University in 1963, followed by a master’s degree in art history in 1966 and a doctorate in 1967 from Johns Hopkins University. His doctoral dissertation focused on the art critic Philippe Burty. Weisberg taught art history at the University of New Mexico and the University of Cincinnati before joining the University of Minnesota in 1985, where he served as professor of art history emeritus.
Gabriel Paul Weisberg OAL (May 4, 1942 – February 7, 2026) was an American art historian and educator. Weisberg was the Professor of Art History Emeritus at the University of Minnesota.
