Per Haftorsen, a Norwegian football goalkeeper who represented Haugar, Fredrikstad and his country, died on October 17, 2026, aged 79.

Born in Haugesund Municipality on September 6, 1947, he spent most of his playing career with SK Haugar, his hometown club. Though Haugar competed in Norway’s second tier, Haftorsen became recognised as one of the country’s best goalkeepers.

He made his international debut in 1969 while still with Haugar, entering as a substitute for Kjell Kaspersen in a friendly against Poland. In 1971 he joined top-flight Fredrikstad, where he played for four seasons. He was part of the team that reached the Norwegian Cup final in 1971 and the side that finished second in the league the following year. After the 1974 season, he returned to Haugar. Haftorsen played 12 times for Norway, winning four matches and keeping two clean sheets. His final national-team selection came after Norway’s 0–9 loss to the Netherlands in a 1972 World Cup qualifier; he was not selected again. He was the father of Per Andreas Haftorsen.
