Eli Rygg, a Norwegian television personality and children’s writer, died on October 15, 2026, aged 71.

Born on September 22, 1955, in Rauma Municipality, she grew up in Veblungsnes and moved to Levanger when she was 12. Rygg attended folk high school in Skogn and Inderøy municipalities.

She had a daughter as a teenager, in 1973, and later studied domestic science and childcare in Skatval before finding work in Stjørdal Municipality. In 1985, she moved to Oslo after being recruited by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) to appear in children’s television. Her presenting work included the Christmas series Teodors julekalender and the morning programme Frokost-TV on NRK1, as well as Barn ingen hindring on NRK2. She also hosted the radio show Revehiet on P4 Radio Hele Norge. Alongside broadcasting, Rygg wrote several children’s books and read fairytales to live audiences, including performances with backing by Concerts Norway. Her work thus reached audiences through children’s television, morning programming, radio, books and live storytelling. The range of these roles marked a career that moved between broadcast studios and in-person readings, while keeping children and family audiences at its center.
