Ebo Taylor Ghanaian musician and producer dead at age 90

Ebo Taylor, a Ghanaian musician, guitarist, composer, bandleader, record producer and arranger, died on February 7, 2026.

Born Deroy Taylor in Cape Coast, then in the Gold Coast colony, on January 6, 1936, he began playing piano at age six and went on to focus on highlife and afrobeat music. Active from the late 1950s to 2026, Taylor was a prominent figure on the Ghanaian music scene for more than six decades.

He played with the Stargazers and the Broadway Dance Band, and in 1962 took the Black Star Highlife Band to London, where he collaborated with Fela Kuti and other African musicians.

Ebo Taylor (born Deroy Taylor; 6 January 1936 – 7 February 2026) was a Ghanaian guitarist, composer, bandleader, record producer and arranger focusing on highlife and afrobeat music.
