Born in Rasht County, Iran, on November 22, 1969, she became known as a graphic novelist, cartoonist, illustrator and filmmaker whose work crossed between comics, film and children’s literature. Her best-known projects included Persepolis, which she adapted for the screen, as well as Chicken with Plums and Woman, Life, Freedom.
Satrapi also directed the Marie Curie biopic Radioactive and was recognized with honors including the César Award for Best First Film, the Jury Prize and the Sutherland Trophy. She died in Paris.
