Jean-François Leroy, the French journalist and photographer who directed the Visa pour l’image festival from 1989, died on August 31, 2026, aged 69.
Born in Paris on October 3, 1956, he became a leading figure in photojournalism and helped found the Perpignan festival, which he went on to organize and run for decades. Before that, he worked with magazines including Photo-Reporter, Le Photographe and Photo-Revue, and served as editor-in-chief of Photo Magazine from 1985 to 1987.
He later worked as a photographer and editor at Sipa Press and became the agent of photographer Dominique Issermann in 1988. Leroy died in Paris.
