Muhammad al-Fayadh, an Afghan-born Iraqi marja’ and Grand Ayatollah, died on June 4, 2026, in Najaf, Iraq, at the age of 95–96.
Born in 1930 in Jaghori, Ghazni Province, then part of the Kingdom of Afghanistan, he was also known as Muhammad Is’haq al-Fayadh and Muhammad Ishaq al-Fayadh. He studied at the Najaf Seminary and became one of the most senior Shi’a religious authorities in Iraq, widely regarded among the country’s leading clerics.
