Fergus Slattery, the Irish Hall of Fame rugby union player who represented the British & Irish Lions, Barbarians and national team, died on June 4, 2026.

He was 77. Born John Fergus Slattery in Dún Laoghaire on February 12, 1949, he studied at University College Dublin and began his rugby career in 1967.

An openside flanker, he played school rugby for Blackrock College before moving on to senior rugby with UCD and later Blackrock College R.F.C. Slattery won 61 caps for Ireland, captaining the side in 18 of them, and was inducted into the International Rugby Hall of Fame in 2007.
