Also known as James Lynam, he was born in Blackpool, Cork, on October 1, 1925, and went on to build a long career in Gaelic games. A member of the Glen Rovers club in Blackpool, he won his first County Championship title in 1944 soon after turning 19 and added six more winners’ medals before retiring from club hurling in 1960.
At inter-county level, he was first selected as a reserve for the 1950 Munster Championship and later won successive Munster Championship medals beginning in 1952.
