Francis Hallé French botanist and biologist dead at age 87

Francis Hallé, the French botanist and biologist, died on December 31, 2025, at the age of 87.

He was a specialist in tropical rainforests and tree architecture, and is best known for the first “Radeau des cimes” (“Navigating the peaks”), which he initiated with an aerostatic balloon in 1986. Hallé was Professor Emeritus at the University of Montpellier.

In 2010, he and Luc Jacquet began collaborating on the Wild-Touch film project La Forêt des pluies, a documentary about primary forests.

Francis Hallé (15 April 1938 – 31 December 2025) was a French botanist and biologist. He was a specialist on tropical rainforests and of tree architecture.
