David Smith, an Australian politician and Western Australia MLA from 1983 to 1996, died on April 16, 2026, aged 82.
He was a Labor Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1983 to 1996 and served as a minister in the governments of Peter Dowding and Carmen Lawrence. Born in Bunbury, Western Australia, he studied law at the University of Western Australia after attending school in Bunbury and New Norcia.
Smith had been a member of the Labor Party since 1967 and contested the seat of Bunbury at the 1977 state election before winning office in 1983.
