Tony Clarke, Baron Clarke of Stone-cum-Ebony, the British lawyer, judge and life peer who served in the House of Lords from 2009 to 2020, died on April 16, 2026, aged 82.

Born Anthony Peter Clarke on 13 May 1943, he studied Economics and Law at King’s College, Cambridge, was called to the Bar at Middle Temple in 1965 and developed a commercial and maritime law practice. He was one of the first 11 Justices of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom and the first High Court judge to be appointed directly to that court when it came into existence in 2009.
