Jorge Enrique Serpa Pérez, a Cuban Roman Catholic prelate and bishop emeritus of Pinar del Río, died on April 16, 2026.
He was 84. Born in Cienfuegos on March 16, 1942, he moved with his family to Havana as a child and studied at El Buen Pastor Seminary in Havana.
In 1961, he went to Tournai, Belgium, to study theology and was ordained there on July 14, 1968. He was assigned to the Archdiocese of Havana and, after being unable to return to Cuba for years, served in the Archdiocese of Bogotá in Colombia before returning to Cuba in 1999. From 2003 to 2007, he was rector of San Carlos and San Ambrosio Seminary.
