More about Frank Goode

Born: 19 December 1939.

Gender: male.

Occupation: Australian rules football player, Australian rules football coach.

Frank Goode, an Australian rules footballer and coach, died October 19, 2026, aged 86.

Born on December 19, 1939, he played for North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League during the 1960s. An injury to John Dugdale opened a place for Goode at full-forward, where he played with success across the 1965 and 1966 seasons.

He led North Melbourne’s goal-kicking in both years, scoring 38 goals in 1965 and 49 in 1966. An injury early in 1967 required surgery; another injury the following year led to a second operation, which was unsuccessful. Goode then moved into coaching, taking charge of North Melbourne’s under-19 side before coaching Sandringham in the Victorian Football Association. He later served as an assistant coach at Footscray. In 1981, he stood in for senior coach Royce Hart for a match against Melbourne, which Footscray lost. Goode’s involvement in football also extended beyond coaching: he served for five years on the AFL Tribunal. His career thus included roles across the VFL, VFA and the game’s disciplinary body, following his playing years as a forward for North Melbourne.
