Antonio Navarro Wolff, a Colombian engineer and politician who served as a senator from 2002 to 2006 and again from 2014 to 2018, died November 1, 2026, aged 78.

Born Antonio José Navarro Wolff on July 9, 1948, in Pasto, he trained as an engineer and studied at the University of Valle and Loughborough University. He became a commander and leader of the 19th of April Movement, or M-19, a guerrilla organization active in Colombia during the 1970s and 1980s.

After M-19 demobilized under a peace agreement, Navarro and others formed the M-19 Democratic Alliance, which brought the former combatant into electoral politics. He ran for president in 1990 as the party’s candidate. His public career included service in the Chamber of Representatives from 1998 to 2002, followed by two periods in the Senate. He was mayor of Pasto from 1995 to 1998 and governor of Nariño from 2008 to 2012. Navarro’s career thus spanned armed opposition, the transition of M-19 into a political organization and elected roles at municipal, regional and national levels.
