David Malouf

David Malouf, the Australian writer, died on April 22, 2026, at the age of 92.

Born in Brisbane on March 20, 1934, he was a novelist, short story writer, poet, playwright and librettist. He lectured at the University of Queensland and the University of Sydney, and delivered the 1998 Boyer Lectures.

Malouf was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in London in 2008. His works included the poetry collection “Neighbours in a Thicket: Poems,” which won the Grace Leven Prize for Poetry and the Australian Literature Society Gold Medal, and the novels “The Great World” and “Remembering Babylon,” both of which won major awards.
