Carroll, a British occultist and writer, died on April 22, 2026, at the age of 72–73. Born in England in 1953, he was one of the originators of chaos magic theory, a cofounder of the Illuminates of Thanateros, and the founder and chancellor of Arcanorium College.

In the late 1970s, Carroll and Ray Sherwin began publishing The New Equinox. He later issued Liber Null in 1978 and Psychonaut in 1982; the two were published together in 1987 as Liber Null & Psychonaut, a defining work of the chaos magic movement. He also wrote columns for Chaos International under the names Pete Carroll and Stokastikos.
