José Ulises Macías Salcedo, Mexican Roman Catholic prelate and archbishop emeritus of the Archdiocese of Hermosillo, died on April 22, 2026, at age 85.
He served as bishop of Mexicali from 1984 to 1996 and as archbishop of Hermosillo from 1996 to 2016. Born in León, Guanajuato, Mexico, on October 29, 1940, he studied humanities in the seminary of his native city and later studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he received a licentiate in philosophy.
He was ordained a priest in León on April 10, 1966.
