Born August 6, 1942, she was also a poet and built a long career in theater, while appearing in supporting roles in films and telenovelas. Her path to acting began while she was working as a cartographer at Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography.
A professor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico presented a stage production for which Márquez auditioned; after being selected, she left her cartography job and turned to acting. In 2018, she was nominated for the Ariel Award for best actress for Cría puercos, directed by Ehécatl García. She played Esmeralda, a recently widowed farmer who buys a sow for company in her solitude. Her screen credits also included Amanecer and Secretos de familia. Across film and television, she took supporting roles alongside her extensive theater work. Márquez died in Mexico City.
