
Benjamín Castillo Plascencia, a Mexican Roman Catholic prelate, died on April 13, 2026, at age 80.
He served as auxiliary bishop of Guadalajara from 1999 to 2003, bishop of Tabasco from 2003 to 2010, and bishop of Celaya from 2010 to 2021. Born in Ixtlahuacán del Río, Jalisco, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Guadalajara in 1974.
He later studied catechetical theology in Spain, earning degrees from the Comillas Pontifical University and the University of Salamanca. In 1999, Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop of Guadalajara and titular bishop of Sufasar, and he received episcopal consecration in January 2000.
