Takao Fujii, a Japanese politician, died on April 13, 2026, of a heart attack.
He was 83. Fujii was a former member of Japan’s House of Councillors in the Diet, the national legislature.
A native of Shirakawa, Gifu, he was born in Tokyo on March 14, 1943, and graduated from Seijo University. He was first elected to the House of Councillors in 1981 as a member of the Liberal Democratic Party. After serving in the House of Representatives for four terms from 1993 to 2005, he returned to the House of Councillors in 2007 as an independent.
