Mahadev Shankar, a Malaysian jurist and former judge of the Court of Appeal, died on October 26, 2026, aged 94.

He served on the court from 1994 to 1997 and was a lawyer. Born in 1932 on Peel Avenue in Kuala Lumpur, Shankar attended the Victoria Institution.

His schooling was interrupted by the Second World War and the Japanese occupation. In 1941, while in Primary 2 at Pasar Road School, his studies were disrupted. Growing up among friends of many races, he picked up Tamil, Malayalam, Cantonese and Malay. During the upheaval, his family moved to Glenmarie Estate near Klang, where much of the Brahmin community had gone. They later stayed with old family friends in a bungalow off Lorong Seputeh in Old Klang Road, before returning to Peel Road by early February 1942. Shankar became a prominent Malaysian lawyer before serving as an appellate judge. His career brought together legal practice and judicial service in Malaysia, including nearly three years on the Court of Appeal. The available biographical account also records his early education and childhood movements during the Japanese occupation, alongside the languages he learned while growing up in Kuala Lumpur.
